The Intelligent Assistant is an AI helper that lives in the Snapshot sidebar. It is an expert on Snapshot and all of its reports and capabilities, it can answer any question about the current screen, and it can take action for you — launching reports, clicking report tabs, selecting things, and analyzing your metadata. This is the third generation of the assistant, and the one we feel we finally got right.
Setting it up in Preferences
In your Preferences you can configure how AI works. Choose the language model you want to use — OpenAI, Gemini, and Azure are all supported. A separate Intelligent Assistant tab lets you:
- Disable the assistant, if you do not want to use it
- Enable the assistant
- Open it on startup, so it appears automatically after you log in
Opening the assistant
There are two easy ways to bring the assistant into play: click the Assistant button on the main screen, or simply drag out the right-hand sidebar.
Choosing and switching assistants
When you open the assistant, you can choose which assistant to work with. Snapshot includes an Architect, a Developer, and an Administrator, and you can build your own. You can switch between them on the fly whenever you like. You will also see your projects — the default projects that ship with Snapshot, plus any you create yourself. Give the assistant a little more room and additional buttons appear that let you edit the assistant, create new ones, manage projects, define the user, and control which tools the assistant uses.
Editing an assistant
In the assistant editor you can see the assistants you have created and give each one a name. Every assistant has:
- A role — Administrator, Architect, or Developer.
- A guidance style — reactive (just responds to what you do), advisory, collaborative, or proactive (willing to take the lead and drive your projects forward).
- An editable background color and avatar.
Projects and milestones
Each project has a name and a description that are entirely under your control. Below that, project milestones are durable artifacts that record what has happened during the project. The language model populates the milestones automatically, adding a date and a short milestone for each thing you achieve, and you can edit them yourself — remove one that is not useful, or add your own.
The user profile
On the user tab you tell the assistant about yourself. Give your user a name and the assistant will address you by name, and add a job title and your experience level with Salesforce and Snapshot so the assistant can tailor its responses to be most useful to you. If you would rather not share these details, click the Do Not Share Context button.
Tools
The Intelligent Assistant is a tool-wielding assistant with access to powerful tools. These let it:
- List metadata
- Look at your snapshots
- Fetch metadata assets from those snapshots
- Launch reports on your behalf
- View the current screen
- Take actions and click on the current screen
- Look at your data
Click any tool to see exactly what it does, and make it available or unavailable if you want to limit what your assistant can access.
Putting it to work
The assistant can help you on the main desktop, inside any report or dashboard, or anywhere else in Snapshot. For example, you can ask it to look for technical debt and it will automatically launch the Forgotten Assets Report on the snapshot you are interested in. Ask it to look at your validation rules and check for conflicts, and it will fetch the metadata behind the report, bring up those rules, and analyze them for you — all without leaving the screen you are on.
