Snapshot has a powerful Data Dictionary Report that has been in the product for almost 20 years and improved constantly over that time. It lets you build a custom rollup of exactly the objects, fields, properties, relationships, and automations you care about, and then export or share the result with your team.
Selecting objects
All of your available custom objects are listed on the left. Simply check the boxes for the objects you want to include in your display report.
Selecting properties
In the middle of the interface you choose the properties you want to work with:
- Object Properties — essentially every single property available on Salesforce. The definition of each property is shown in a tooltip.
- Field Properties — the same idea, but for fields. Select any property you are interested in and move it into the selected list.
Object and field relationships
On the right you can add relationships to the report:
- Object Relationships — other metadata assets that refer to the objects you selected.
- Field Relationships — other metadata assets that refer to the fields you selected.
Building the display report
Assemble the report any way you want, then open the Display Report tab. You get a rollup report of all your selected properties, fields, and objects. From there you can export it in every available format or share it with your team.
Object automations
A newer capability lets you include your object automations. Select the automations you want and move them into the selected list, then open the Display Report tab to see a clean rollup of all the automations that impact your object — the Account object, for example. A dedicated column shows when each automation fires, such as after insert or after delete, so you get the full picture of what runs against the object.
Additional capabilities
- Trim Table — change which fields are included for any one of your objects, so you can drill down to exactly what you want in the report.
- Color Coding — control the color of any cell based on its text value, making it easy to scan large reports for the values that matter.
The Data Dictionary can generate a report for all of your objects and fields, plus some org information, like org licenses and org limits. When you first come to the Data Dictionary report, you will see three columns. The left column will show all of your custom and standard objects. You can highlight one at a time to show in the preview report tab, or you can check the green box next to multiple objects to pull them into the display report tab.
The middle column includes all of the elements of the report you have selected in the dropdown at the top of this column. You can choose elements of your objects, fields, or org reports.
Once you've selected the objects/fields and their elements you want report on, you can navigate to the Display report tab. On this tab, you can color code your tabs to highlight certain results.
